University of Oxford — Systems Administrator / Senior Systems Administrator (Permanent)
The University of Oxford is a world-leading research university and the oldest university in the English-speaking world. IT services support web services, research computing, and central departments including the Bodleian Library, with a focus on UNIX systems, automation, and monitoring.
At the University of Oxford my main responsibility was to support web services and to ensure the configuration and ongoing monitoring of UNIX systems. I focused on robust integration with the network and on automating server configurations and builds wherever possible. This included server builds with Puppet, support for Apache and Jboss web servers, and monitoring with Nagios, Cacti, SNMP, and scripting in Perl and Bash.
