I served as a Senior AWS Data Engineer on contract at Nationale-Nederlanden, on a team responsible for developing back office tools to assess and report financial risk within an asset management firm. The work combined AWS serverless data services, ETL and workflows, and both Node.js/React and Python development for analytics and risk tooling.

Key responsibilities and achievements

  • AWS serverless — Used Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SSM, Glue, Athena, S3, CloudFront, and Cognito to build scalable data processing and storage.
  • ETL and workflows — Developed ETL pipelines and workflows with AWS Glue and Athena for transformation and analysis.
  • Front-end and scripting — Node.js scripting and React.js for interactive back office interfaces.
  • Python and data — Python with boto3, numpy, pandas, and PySpark for data manipulation, analysis, and modelling.
  • Domain — Applied knowledge of asset management, risk measures, regulations, and FX rates, using mathematical concepts in risk assessment tools.
  • DevOps — Bash scripting and CI/CD; test-driven development; mixed Windows/Linux environment.

Building serverless back office tools that supported financial risk assessment and reporting in asset management, combining AWS data services with strong Python and front-end development.
