The company runs a broad portfolio of titles and digital products, and migrated applications from an unsupported private cloud to AWS during this engagement.

As a DevOps Engineer on contract at de Persgroep Nederland, my main responsibility was to migrate an application from an unsupported private Cloud to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This included project documentation, initiation, Proof of Concept design, and data and application migration. I also worked with peers and management to communicate plans and presented to business stakeholders with varying technical backgrounds.

  • Migration — Assessed and delivered detailed infrastructure design and migration approach; drove PoC, data migration, and application migration.
  • Stakeholder communication — Presented technical strategies to technical and non-technical audiences to align on scope and approach.
  • Optimisation — Focused on utilisation, monitoring, efficiency, and performance to improve the migrated system.
  • Architecture — Designed and implemented multi-account and VPC architectures for scalability and isolation.
  • AWS — Used EC2, RDS, Route53, ECS, and CloudFormation for engineering and architecture.
  • Tooling — Docker, Ansible, Terraform, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Jenkins, Apache, Nginx, PHP-FPM, Nagios, and ELK stack.

Delivering a full migration from an unsupported private cloud to AWS, with clear documentation, PoC, and stakeholder alignment.
